Rhino Writers Is Now Closed. This is the last post.

The Rhino Writers blog is now closed.

This is the last post.

A Gay Blogging Group in Second Life may continue if there is enough interest, but there is no need to maintain this blog with the limited readership we have.

Ricogenu Resident Elected Lead of the Gay Archipelago

BREAKING NEWS Congratulations to Ricogenu Resident who was just elected lead (chair) of the Gay Archipelago, a very important Second Life group. Here is Rico in a photo just taken after the results were announced in the past hour with his partner, Avacar Bluestar (on the left). Rico and Avacar have built
Gay Fun World into a leading Second Life organization, I think Rico will do an amazing job guiding the Gay Archipelago and working with other Second Life groups.

Please See This Important Message Petr Hastings-Vanbeeck, Presiding Chair of Second Pride

From Petr Hastings-Vanbeeck, Presiding Chair of Second Pride

This past year has been a difficult time for Second Pride. It began way before the election over the summer with the unfortunate activities surrounding that hate blog and all the nastiness heaped at certain sitting members of the board and members of the community at large.

The election was a downright disgrace to the community with all the evilness that erupted and the clear violations of SL/LL TOS, which included the spreading of information about candidates first lives.

When the new board took hold it appeared it was going to be a very interesting year, with it made up of a wide range of people.

Let me address the first 2 resignations and this is my personal opinion, I don't believe they had any intention of staying on the board once the election results were known. I don't know this for fact but just seems that way.

These two positions were filled as quickly as possible. The build director came in with the unenviable task of rebuilding the Second Pride sim after all the buildings and landscaping were taken. This really brought the board and members of the community together to help rebuild and move forward.

The position of Marketing Director was declared to be vacant after the failure of the person elected to communicate directly with the board regarding failure to show up to meetings. The by-laws of the Second Pride allow for this after three consecutive meetings without contact.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, the elected chair of the board resigned for personal reasons.

The Security Director stopped showing up and/or communicating with the board and was replaced after three meetings.

The board has had a rough year and needs people willing to work and move forward. This is a board that is reaching out to work with various groups within the "community."

The recent departure of the Events Director is unfortunate, but understandable. He worked hard at what he did, but unfortunately was being harassed and questioned incessently from the outside. And had to work against those forces in trying to organize events and schedule entertainers. He was accused of a lot of things, all of which in my mind were totally unjust and uncalled for.

The board makes an effort to try to include the interests of as many people and groups as possible. The board isn't there to only serve one "group" within the diverse LGBT community within SL. There are constant ramblings that only a certain group is being represented by the entertainers that perform at Pride events. This is all coming from folks that haven't been to an event and are just repeating accusations that started back in September. All one has to do is look at the list of people who have graciously volunteered their time and you will see that this accusations if far from the truth.

While I am on the topic the events director sent multiple notecards and requests to every entertainer he could find. If they chose not to respond for some reason or another it is far from being the fault of the Events Director.

As chair of the board, I see a strong team that is here trying really hard to repair the damage that was done to the reputation of the organization during 2013 leading up to the annual Pride Festival and during the elections. The board welcomes construction input (about what we have done well) and suggestions (on how we might do better) and we hope to get back on a regular meeting schedule now that the holidays are over.

Please feel free to contact me or any member of the board if you have suggestions or comments. I would suggest putting them on a notecard cause we all know how LL likes to cap our msgs or even worse lose them.

The Second Pride Festival is just beginning to take shape and is planned for June. More details will be coming soon. We also have some fun events planned for later in the spring as well.

Thanks you all.

State of the Union Address to Group

State of the Union Address to Group

For most of us, this part of the year is when we slow down on blogging to attend to personal details and participate in holiday functions. I have news for readers that might be on downside. We de-rezzed the gallery in Virtual Gay World. There was absolutely zero traffic thru the reader spot except when a meeting or other gallery function was planned. Then after no further activity and someone offered to rent the land the gallery was occupying, we took it all down in a matter of moments. Not long after was when I started a new blog that Eddi wrote about here.

Now approaching its two month mark, its reader hit count has surpassed the whole history count for Rhino Writers' blog (the one you are reading now.) In the in-world group, I posted that I would be interested in allowing more people to post on the new blog. So far, nobody has taken the challenge. I haven't found a new space for Rhino to call home in-world. Mostly because I don't feel the collective membership feels it necessary. The same goes for community activities and chances to grow exposure anywhere for our members' blogs.

With exception to one weekly poet, I never see any of our readers post links to any of their favorite blog posts in the notices (YES every group member still has posting rights in the in-world Rhino group - AND invitation rights.) Just like a certain mainland rail-road that just de-rezzed and gave up all of its 12-sim parcels back to LL, with lack of ideas, new or old, or further enthusiasm, I'm finding it hard to say this is still a group worthy of maintaining. Let me know your thoughts.

 Yours truly, Avacar Bluestar
